Back in 1971, in Santa Barbara, California, a young man invented a beach sandal that solved two major problems that existed in most beach sandals - comfort and foot placement. You may not think of this as a big deal, but at the time, it was revolutionary. Most beach sandals, or thongs, that were available at the time were not that comfortable (especially between the toes) and the wearer usually had a hard time keeping the heel centered on the footbed of the sandal. Having solved these two major problems, the young man introduced his ideas to the public. The response was immediate...and phenomenal. Demand for his sandals grew to a point where he soon presided over a manufacturing company that employed nearly 100 staff, production and sales people. He named the company Lightfoot of California. In 1980, due to high interest rates and competition from overseas manufacturing, he took the production of his sandals to China, where he spent time teaching factory employees the methods he used to create comfortable, durable sandals. After a short period of trial and error, the product coming out of China met the consistent high quality standards that was demanded. In 1987 the company's name was changed to PURE JUICE and by 1996, sandals bearing the PURE JUICE brand could be found in surf shops, shoe stores, apparel stores and major department stores throughout the US and in eight countries worldwide. It was in that year that the company celebrated its 25th anniversary. It was in that same year that the company founder was approached by several individuals who expressed a desire to purchase PURE JUICE. After a period of negotiation the company was sold. The new owners, after a year of in-house bickering and questionable decision-making, brought the company to a halt. Meanwhile, emails and letters were sent by old customers and loyalists to the founder of PURE JUICE, expressing their concerns and dismay for not being able to purchase their favorite sandals. We didn't want to disappoint you any more... and the decision was made to go back into business. So here we go again! We've kept the line small and basic.
